The Little Danube branches off from the Danube near Bratislava and flows into the Váh River near Kolárovo, creating a unique river system around the Žitný ostrov region.
Little Danube Canoe Trip – Stages
The full river trip can be comfortably divided into 6 days, but each stage also works well as a standalone trip.
1st stage: Vrakuňa – Tomášov
18 km | approx. 4 hours
The most common starting point is Vrakuňa, with easy parking, public transport access, and even a nearby train stop. Starting directly from the Danube is uncommon due to difficult portages.

2nd stage: Tomášov – Jelka
28 km | approx. 6–7 hours
The most popular section of the Little Danube and perfect as a one-day trip. The route ends at the iconic wooden water mill in Jelka, surrounded by a grassy area and two restaurants.

3rd stage: Jelka – Potônske Lúky
16 km | approx. 3–4 hours
A calm and relaxing section.
Camping:
Potônske Lúky (reservation required) – considered one of the most beautiful campsites on the river, with toilets, showers, and a peaceful atmosphere.
4th stage: Potônske Lúky – Jahodná
19 km | approx. 4–5 hours
This section includes a portage at Čierna Voda and passes the Tomášikovo water mill, where you’ll also find a popular restaurant.
Camping:
Tomášikovo – riverside camping
Jahodná – campsite, restaurant, and guesthouse
5th stage: Jahodná – Topoľníky
23 km | approx. 5–6 hours
One of the most scenic parts of the trip, leading through the Klátovské rameno with crystal-clear water.
Camping:
Topoľníky – requires a short upstream paddle into the side branch, but it’s well worth it.
6th stage: Topoľníky – Kolárovo
17 km | approx. 4 hours
The most peaceful section with very few people. In Kolárovo, you can visit another historic floating water mill. From here, you can continue an additional 22 km down the Váh River to Komárno.

Hurbanova Ves – Jelka
An ideal short trip (approx. 3 hours on the water), perfect for beginners and families with children. No portages required.

Practical Tips
Planning: Aim for around 20 km per day (4–6 hours of relaxed paddling).
Food & water: Not all sections have restaurants, so bring your own supplies.
Boat choice: Open double canoes are the most common. They can fit 2 adults and 1–2 children. Kayaks and rafts are also available depending on preference.
